Day 6 - Wet

Fort Nelson, BC to Watson Lake, Yukon Territory. 320 miles. It started raining just before we got up this morning. It was also windy so the stoves were not working well so we ate at the restaurant at the RV park. French toast and bacon tasted pretty good after 5 mornings of instant oat meal and granola bars. We got gas and headed out in the rain. We had our rain gear on and got pretty wet by the end of the day. Gloves were the worst. Even with waterproof gauntlet gloves, the rain runs down your arm into the gauntlet. At least with the grip heaters, the water that filled our gloves was warm.

We stopped at Toad River to get gas for Ron and I had a cup of coffee. I made the 320 miles on this mornings fill but I had gone on reserve 32 miles before Watson Lake. The bicyclers were a bit miserable also. There are a lot of V-Twins around because there is a race from Key West, Fl to Homer, AK for $500,000 in Alaska gold.

We did see a couple of black bears in the borrow ditch and quite a few wild buffalo.

We got a hotel room for tonight to let the equipment dry out. We are at the Air Force Lodge which is an old barracks for World War II pilots. It has been restored nicely and there are other riders here so we are picking their brains about the run up to Deadhorse. Getting some good info.

  1. No! The lobster gloves didn't work! I was excited for those!

Been getting a lot of motorcyclers in at work for some reason. I tell everyone about you. They all get so jealous.

Been missing you. I'm not home a lot, but it's weird not having you here.

    Stay dry! <3

  2. Man, and I thought for sure that all that purchasing of wet weather equipment would prevent this!

  3. From Jack et. al.,
We ate lunch at Oscar Blues and split an order of ghost wings. Those that ate them were not disappointed with the heat.
It could be worse. Instead of rain you could be dealing with snow.

A hotel already? Waffles? Being wet is a drag. Ron, how's the oil consumption? What mileage are you getting? My 08 has started to cut out under full throttle. Power is intermittent, could be electrical I suppose. Be safe.
